Mostly, recently, I've been working on pants. Which is not very exciting, I must admit. There's a lot of fit shenanigans. I started with the tissue-fit method detailed in Pants for Real People (I really truly almost wrote "Pains for Real People") and have now moved on to a muslin. The book says with their method you don't need a muslin, but for my first pair of Real Pants I'm going to anyway, not least so I can practice putting in a fly front.
Speaking of which...
That is one ugly-ass fly front. But it's functional and I know how to do it better/properly for the real thing. Most importantly, it needs fly facings, which may have been in the pattern, who knows. I sure as hell didn't read the directions. :P
I could show you fitting photos, but let's not go there. So far the fit is reasonably okay in the front, not so much in the back. There's too much fabric above my butt and—I think—not enough in the back inseam. So it's wrinkles and drag lines and pulls all the way. I'm going to continue tackling it tomorrow... I have to take it in small doses or I get frustrated.
On the plus side, when I'm done I'll have a pattern I can use for several pairs of pants.
Also, I recently went fabric shopping! My favorite local shop had a moving sale this week, so naturally I had to go hit it up.
Navy blue and silver-pinstriped cotton/lycra. This is going to be a second pair of pants.
Pink, brown, and white striped cotton/lycra shirting. Clearly I'm going to have all sorts of fun matching stripes on my fabrics.
And last but not least...
This lovely, which is all cotton and satin-striped. Yum. I bought two yards but wish I could have bought the whole bolt. It's so texturally interesting! And purple!
I've also been working on a swatch for a new sweater. (A Christmas sweater, if you must know.) My local yarn shop was having a sale, and I had a store credit, which meant I walked out of there with 5 skeins of Cascade sock yarn for $1.87. Score!
